Our 10 Favorite Graphic Novels

These are our top 15 favorite graphic novels. This was supposed to be a top 10 list, but there was no way to remove any of these from the list to get it down to 10. I love all of these books and would recommend them to anyone looking for a good read and would make them required reading – if I were so empowered – for anyone who has the responsibility of being a comic book creator. They are, in no particular order, amazing.

Superman Secret Identity – Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen
This is one of the best twists on the Superman story I've ever read. Also, it's drawn by one of my favorite artists.

V for Vendetta – Alan Moore and David Lloyd
The classic revolt against the tyrannical government.

Watchmen – Alan Moore and David Gibbons
The best superhero story ever told. This is as much an alternate history as a superhero comic.

Sin City: The Hard Goodbye – Frank Miller
A hard hitting and edgy story with some of the freshest art in the history of comics.

Flight (take your pic) – A bunch of dudes (and chicks)
Any one of these volumes is a excellent anthology by some of the most gifted comic book creators of our day.

Y the Last Man – Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra
Who hasn't dreamt of being the last man alive in a world full of women. Apparently it's not all it's cracked up to be.

The Dark Knight Returns – Frank Miller
The classic Batman story.

Superman for All Seasons – Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale
The different seasons in the life of Superman told by the people who know him the best.

Batman: Hush – Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee
A gripping story with great art and a fresh theme on Batman.

Star Wars: Underworld: The Yavin Vassilika – Mike Kennedy and Carlos Meglia
Great story, great art...and Boba Fett's in it.

Demo – Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan
12 freaking amazing stories told through some great art.

Priest: Genesis (Volume 1) – Min-woo Hyung
Three words: guns, zombies and exploding heads. Wait...how many words was that?

Tiny Giants – Nate Powell
This is one of my favorite slice of life creators. Excellent stories with excellent art.

Shortcomings – Adrian Tomine
The other master of slice of life tells a heart-felt story about the awkwardness of growing up.

Mail Order Bride – Mark Kalesniko
A not quite beautiful story about a young woman's hopes in coming to America in a less than usual way.
